"Les Vins du Coins" or "What was I doing last week-end???"

I had some great wines last week, a lot and a lot of them!!!
First of all, the Salon "Les Vins du Coins" in Blois was a very nice event. The location, The National Haras, a landmarked building from the 17th Century that is, unfortunately, being sold for being too expensive to maintain. It gave to the event a little extra nostalgic feeling. So, beautiful spot along with the remaining exhalations of the stallions that were camping there...!!!

Let's start with the bubbles. A couple from Pascal Potaire that I enjoyed a lot, "Piege a Filles", a blend of Gamay with a splash of Chardonnay, well balanced between the sweetness and the acidity with light red fruits aromas that fills you mouth without being overpowering, very clean, absolutely delicious. Then "Pepin La Bulle" 08, 100% Chardonnay, dry and very crisp with white fruit notes. Unusual and yummy!!!
Mikael Bouges made his first vintage in 2005. He works 8 hectares in the villages of Faverolles and St Julien de Chedon, 3 of Sauvignon Blanc, 1.5 of 80 years old Menu Pineau, a little bit of Gamay and the rest is Cot (Malbec). "Clic-Clac" is the name of his bubble, made 100% of those 80 years old Menu Pineau and the result is an incredibly mineral, dry "pet nat" ( means that the 2nd fermentation, the creation of the bubbles, comes from the natural sugar coming from the grapes, not from added sugar) with a lingering white peach finish along with a touch of acidity that brings everything together, brilliant!!!

On the white side, "Vin Blanc", a 100% Pinot Gris on clay & silex soil from Jean-Marie & Thierry "Rank Xerox" Puzelat for Clos du Tue Boeuf. The nose is very aromatic, in the mouth, it expresses the terroir with a great minerality brought up by a low acidity and a dry finish. I'm dreaming about oysters right now.

Nathalie & Christian Chaussard came out with a Coteaux-du-Loir "Les Blandelieres" 04. Chenin Blanc is my favorite white grape. From one terroir to another, from one winemaker to another, the Chenin gives a diversity of emotions that carry me away. This one is bright, fresh with a great acidity and clean dry finish... Now I want a scallop carpaccio!!!

A couple reds, still with the Chaussard Family, finally, the 08 version of "Patapon" is in bottle. This vintage is a very lazy one for some of their reds. I have to say that 08 is f.....g goooooood...!!! The peppery nose, those ripe red fruit aromas with dark cherries flesh tones, the freshness and the and the spicy dry finish will make your head spin. For your health, we advise to drink it without moderation.

Another red, let's return to Mikael Bouges with "Les Cots Hauts" 08, 100% Cot, as you might have guessed, much on a light side with spicy/peppery notes on subtle red fruit aromas, you just want another glass.

Unfortunately, most of those wines are not available in the U.S, so I'm thinking about sending a letter to Santa Claus, asking him to fix the situation. Before I forgot, it's almost official, we gonna have some rose wines in magnum next Summer!!!
