One of my favorite wine ever, the first natural wine I put on the wine list @ Le Pere Pinard in 2005, is back in the latest vintage : PATAPON 08.
Have you ever try a wine made of a single grape called Pineau d'Aunis??? Very popular in the 13th century, this indigenous grape from the Anjou and Touraine area is mostly use in blended wines to make reds and roses.
Hopefully, a few but talented winemakers keep using it to make amazing red wines, with a wide range of terroir expression. From a light, refreshing, peppery, aromatic juice to a dark, deep, spicy, structured and complex, luscious red wine.
Mr President first, Christian Chaussard & Nathalie Gaubicher from Domaine Le Briseau with "Patapon" or "Les Mortiers", Eric Nicolas from Domaine de Bellivieres with the elegant yet powerfull "Rouge-Gorge", Thierry Puzelat with the spicy "La Tesniere", Renaud Guettier from Domaine de la Grapperie with the fresh "Adonis", Emile Heredia from Domaine de Montrieux with his "Coteaux du Vendomois" that he vinified as a Rouge, a Blanc or a Gris, just to name a few (and my favorites). It's official, some magnums of Patapon are checking in tomorrow. Back also, now by the glass, the cuvee "Vaison-la-Romaine" 08 from Eric Texier. This 100% Grenache is full of ripe fruits, give him a few minutes and the tannins will smooth up, then, you'll fully enjoy this clean and delicious Cotes du Rhone...
Coming very soon, some crazy Bourgogne Aligote Vieille Vignes 2008 from Alice & Olivier DeMoor. I'll keep you updated on that one!!!
